A Bit About Me.

A Bit About Me.

Hi, I'm Emma, a driven architecture student currently pursuing my Masters in Architecture at North Dakota State University. Ever since I was a little girl, I've been fascinated by design, and that passion has only grown stronger over the years. It was during high school when I took an architectural drafting course that I knew without a doubt that architecture was the perfect career choice for me.

Since the beginning of my education at NDSU, I've had the honor of winning multiple awards that showcase my design skills and commitment to the field. Designing is not just a job for me; it's a calling. I genuinely love what I do, and I'm determined to make a positive impact through my work. As I continue my education and refine my skills, I'm excited about the possibilities that lie ahead in the world of architecture. With each project, I strive to create something unique and functional but most importantly, meaningful. In the fall semester 2023, I studied abroad in Europe, furthering my studies in sustainable architecture & urban design. My immediate plan upon completion of my masters degree, is to pursue licensure in architecture, and I can't wait to see where this incredible journey takes me.

In my preconstruction role at Lifestyle Communities, a multifamily development company, I gained valuable insights into a different side of the architectural field. Managing project bids enhanced my understanding of the negotiation phase and provided a deeper appreciation for how specific building elements are constructed. I facilitated clear and consistent communication with subcontractors, contributing to efficient collaboration. Additionally, I delved into the GMP process and collaborated on value engineering efforts with my team. I also assisted in coordinating preconstruction activities for five multifamily projects across Nashville, TN, Charleston, SC and Austin, TX.

As an architectural intern at Stone Group Architects, most importantly, I consistently showed up with a positive attitude, eager to learn new things every day. I actively contributed to projects through design collaboration, creating detailed drawings, and supporting documentation. Additionally, I took the initiative to develop new solutions within the firm, aiding efficiency for multiple tasks and fostering a culture of innovation. Most importantly, this experience greatly expanded my knowledge in various sectors, while simultaneously deepening my love of architecture.

What My Mentors Had To Say:

"Emma acts very professionally and mature at work and client meetings."

"She's a great listener, and not afraid of changes."

"She came to work every day with a positive attitude."

As an associate instructor, I teach first-year students in their studio course, focusing on developing their drawing and sketching skills. This role has honed my organizational abilities and improved my communication skills, enabling me to effectively guide and mentor younger students. Similar to my experience as a teaching assistant, this position allows me to collaborate with others on a daily basis, and has strengthened my leadership skills.

As a graduate teaching assistant for the 2nd-year studio, I mentored underclassmen on their projects, helping them refine their skills and develop their design abilities. This role allowed me to collaborate with aspiring architects and provide constructive feedback to improve their project outcomes. It has also strengthened my leadership abilities and significantly enhanced my communication skills.

In this office interior design project, I played a key role in enhancing the lobby area and making it ADA accessible. I dedicated significant time to working on creative design options and rendering multiple solutions, ensuring that the space not only met accessibility standards but also reflected a visually appealing and functional design.

Working in the service industry has been instrumental in developing valuable non-academic skills. It has honed my ability to communicate effectively and respond appropriately to customer needs. Additionally, I have become adept at working under pressure and completing tasks efficiently.
